During General Sam Houston Day, visitors can enjoy historical demonstrations, hands-on activities, and period music.  Tour the homes the Houstons lived in, gain access to the Steamboat House and the 19th century period cabins on the property.  The events on the grounds and admission into the museum are FREE!

There is no charge.  We want families to be able to enjoy a day together learning about Sam Houston and his times.

This year marks the 190th anniversary of the Texian victory at San Jacinto and we have partnered with individuals and historic sites from across Texas to bring Texas history up close and make it an interactive experience for our visitors.

We are thrilled to welcome back Silhouettes & Such to General Sam Houston Day! Longtime friends and supporters of the museum, the Cane Island Volunteers, will also be on hand. Iron Horse Guest Ranch returns with their wagon for crowd‑favorite wagon rides, while the Sons of the Republic of Texas will once again make history come alive with their cannon demonstrations. We are also honored to host representatives from the Alabama Coushatta Tribe, the Alamo, San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, Washington‑on‑the‑Brazos State Historic Site, Fanthorp Inn State Historic Site, San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, the Texas Navy, and many more!
