The facility was built a part of the Gen. Sam Houston Bicentennial Celebration in honor of Gen. Sam Houston's 200th birthday on March 2, 1993. The 22,000 square foot center is located at 1402 19th Street on the southwest corner of the museum grounds, west of the Sam Houston State University campus.
The Walker Education Center can accommodate any party size with four meeting rooms, an auditorium, a library, Texas History library, and a large atrium.
Located on the lower lever of the Walker Education Center, the W. S. Gibbs Conference Hall is perfect for business meetings, receptions, dinners and large gatherings. This area contains 4,300 square feet, which can accommodate 250-300 people and can be divided to accommodate small groups. In addition, a large prep kitchen is available.
